Something happened at our most recent Wealth Leverage Experience that I have not been able to stop thinking about. A husband and wife, I will call them Gary and Carol, were sitting in the room.
Gary was 62. In front of everyone, he admitted something that was difficult for him to say. He had spent thousands of dollars over the years on real estate programs without producing the results he had hoped for. And his wife had lost confidence. She did not really want to attend. In fact, she came only after Gary promised her, "This will be the last one."
As Gary told me this, he became emotional. I turned to Carol and asked whether it was true. She said it was. And I told her something I have since realized many couples need to hear:
Everything he is trying to do is ultimately about protecting you.
He is thinking about what happens if his health changes. What happens if his ability to earn changes. Whether you have accumulated enough. Whether you are running out of time. And whether the person he loves will be financially secure if someday he cannot provide the way he does today. The room became completely silent. Because Gary was not the only man carrying that fear, and Carol was not the only wife carrying doubt.
At the end of the event, Gary found me. He said, "Lance, when I came here, I felt like I was running out of time and running out of money. And just when I had almost given up, you gave me hope." Then Carol came to me privately. She had attended other real estate events before, and usually she knew very quickly it was not for them. But after the first evening with us she told Gary, "This is the one."
That crystallized something for me. Family Freedom is not something one spouse builds for the other. At its best, it is something you understand and believe in together. And that is what October is about.
